Yet another Premier League weekend. Yet another goal fest. Yet more entertainment and yet more scenes of disbelief. It just keeps getting better and better. The weekend started off with an intense and high on quality clash between Chelsea and Manchester City which will mostly be remembered for Chelsea’s clinical nature and Aguero’s ability to fly along with Fernandinho’s attempted chokeslam. We saw further scenes of disbelief when the Cherries came from 2 goals down to win 4-3 against Liverpool. While Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur thrashed the Hammers and the Swans respectively and Manchester United did what they do best, draw.
With the action about to come to a close, let us take a look at the best performing midfielders over the weekend.
ALEXIS SANCHEZ (ARSENAL)
The Chilean shows no sign of slowing down and is going from strength to strength with each passing week. He continues to lead the Arsenal attack and we saw against West Ham, exactly why. The hat-trick in about a quarter of an hour put the game to bed even as West Ham tried to deal with the sudden avalanche of goals which condemned to yet another defeat. Sanchez is now up to 11 goals for the season and is giving the established strikers a run for their money. Arsenal have to use all means to keep hold of him and tie him down to a long-term contract.
CHRISTIAN ERIKSEN (TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR)
Over at the White Hart Lane, it was the turn of Arsenal’s arch rivals to give relegation-threatened Swansea City a sound thrashing. Clueless and listless Swans were subjected to 90 minutes of torture and although it was Kane who started off the fireworks, Christian Eriksen came into his own during the latter stages.
Having scored his first goal of the season in the previous game week, he took things a notch higher and scored a brace as well as adding an assist. Eriksen is probably their main creative output and if he can add a goal-scoring dimension, Spurs will look a different entity altogether.
RYAN FRASER (BOURNEMOUTH)
The little-known Scot came out of nowhere and knocked the wind out of Liverpool’s sails in Bournemouth’s incredible 4-3 win over Liverpool. Bournemouth looked down and out for 45 minutes and were, in fact, trailing 1-3 in the 63rd minute. But the belated introduction of Ryan Fraser changed everything for the Cherries. His first touch earned the penalty while he then scored the second and later assisted the third with a great cross. He was on the pitch for mere 35 minutes and won them the game.
