Celtic stretched their lead at the top of the Premiership table to 16 points with a game in hand with a convincing 2-0 victory against Ross County on Wednesday night. With this win, their unbeaten streak across domestic competitions extend to 23 under Rodgers.
In the process, they have won all their games but one and now Rodgers will be keen to head to the winter break with a victory against rivals Rangers on the New Year’s Eve. An invincible treble is still too big a thing to ask for but the fans will certainly fancy their chances.
Ross County looked pretty compact from the very start of the game and Celtic were finding it hard to break them down until Erik Sviatchenko scored a stunner from 35 yards out.
During the stoppage time in the first half, Stuart Armstrong doubled the lead with a nice finish. Celtic had a few chances to score a third and kill the game but Ross County held firm under pressure.
The Best And The Worst Celtic Players Rated From Their Convincing Win Against Ross County
Craig Gordon: 6/10
Was never really tested by the visitors. Had very little to do.
Mikael Lustig: 5/10
Made a few bad passes to get his side under pressure. Did not make too many forward surges. Neither was solid defensively.
Jozo Simunovic: 7/10
Solid game defensively. Read the game brilliantly. Passed well. Once again showed that he could be a Celtic great in the making.
Erik Sviatchenko: 7.5/10
Scored a stunner to give Celtic the lead. Was brilliant defensively. Great covering to bail out partner Simunovic after a sloppy mistake.
Emilio Izaguirre: 7/10
A great game from the Honduran. Was always a threat with his forward bursts but the final pass was missing. Defended well.
