Dean Saunders has warned Daniel Sturridge that he must improve to fit himself in Jurgen Klopp’s strategy or else be ready to face the sack.
The England international has started only four occasions in the Premier League this term. Jurgen Klopp has been playing with a 4-3-3 formation and has been using Roberto Firmino as the false nine.
Sturridge has been linked with a move away but Klopp is very reluctant to let go of one of his prized attackers. The striker has often been criticised for his laid-back attitude.
Sturridge has the tendency to hold the ball for a longer period which slows down the pace of the game where as Klopp likes to pay free flowing football with swift movement and smooth passing.
Saunders said, “I think Sturridge is up there with [Sergio] Aguero, talent wise. Firmino has been playing up the middle for Liverpool because he is better at getting the ball back. Sturridge, for real cutting edge and hurting you as a striker, is up there with the best.
“But he just can’t stay fit and they need to get to the bottom of it because the injuries are holding his career back.
“He is not getting a run of games together. Klopp has to play him up the middle, but does he react as quick as Firmino when you lose the ball? No, and that’s why Firmino plays in front of him.
“He has got more talent than all of them, but he’s got to fit into Klopp’s formula, which is – when we lose the ball, we’ve got to get it back as quick as we can.”
