Rangers had their struggles to settle in the top tier of Scottish Premiership after finally achieving promotion after four long years but Warburton’s side look pretty much on course now. The return to the top flight didn’t go to plan in the early stages of the season and questions were being asked of Warburton. However, with four straight wins in the bag and the team chemistry looking much better, Rangers are pretty much in control of the second place.
Rangers will be in action on 28th December against St. Johnstone who are in pretty decent form this season. The Saints are fifth in the table with 27 points to their name and have lost just one of their last six games. In three days’ time after this game, Rangers will be up against their arch rivals Celtic on the New Year’s Eve and they should use this game to prepare for a challenge against Celtic in that game.
Rangers will be keen to extend their winning streak to five games but must not be complacent ahead of the game because the Saints are quite a strong side and can punish them for their overconfidence. Here is the predicted Rangers lineup against St. Johnstone.
Defence
Wes Foderingham should keep his place under the bar ahead of veteran Matt Gilks. Lee Hodson has made the right-back position his own with his impressive displays of late and should retain his position. We expect Danny Wilson to start at the heart of the Rangers defence alongside Rob Kiernan.
Clint Hill started the last game and did a good job but Wilson will be a much better choice against an attacking St. Johnstone side. Skipper Lee Wallace will keep his place at left-back and will be looking to create chances on the overlap.
Midfield
Andy Halliday should start at the base of Rangers midfield and will be looking to keep up his impressive run. James Tavernier, a right-back by trade, has played in central midfield in the last three games and did really well. He will keep his place in the middle of the park and so will Jason Holt.
Rangers’ central trio are quite energetic and will look to dominate the midfield area against Hamilton. Josh Windass is once again expected to get some playing time from the bench.
Attack
Joe Garner has struggled for goals since his Rangers move but his overall game is quite impressive and will keep his place up front. All he needs is confidence and get back to scoring ways as soon as possible. We expect Martyn Waghorn to start on the left flank and he’s a man in form with three goals in the last two games. Barrie McKay will keep his place on the right.
