After a hard-fought match with Manchester United ended on the wrong foot for Tottenham Hotspur, the Lilywhites wasted no time to get over it with a brilliant thumping of struggling Hull City side in the last night. Pochettino’s men looked ruthless and in full control of their game against the Tigers, which kept a safe distance between them and Manchester United in the points table.
Spurs next host Burnley, who have largely had an erratic season so far. While the Clarets have managed to bring out points from a difficult place like Old Trafford, they have also looked inept against many weaker teams.
Tottenham have a decent home record against Burnley. They have won the last five competitive home games against them and Burnley’s biggest away defeat in the Premier League was at White Hart Lane.
Defence
Hugo Lloris will take his position under the bar. He is one of the best keepers in the league and he proved that yet again against Hull City when he made three good saves from Livermore.
Pochettino played a 3-3-3-1 formation against Hull, which is quite uncharacteristic of Tottenham. However, we expect them to return to their old formation as Burnley are good defensive side and just might hit back on the counter. Hence playing three at the back might not be that effective.
The flanks will be taken by Danny Rose and Kyle Walker. Rose added quite some width while going forward and the same can be said of Walker. The central defensive duo of Vertonghen and Alderweireld are quite matchless. They both had a big impact on Tottenham’s goals up front and it is hugely noticeable now how much Spurs missed Alderweireld not only at the back but also in the set-piece situations further up the pitch.
