Borussia Dortmund will look to get back on track after slipping at Frankfurt last week thanks to Haris Seferovic’s stunning drive. They will face tough challenge when they meet one of the league’s big guns in Borussia Monchengladbach at the Signal Iduna Park.
Thomas Tuchel’s men seemed to be in good shape, after beating Bayern, and breezed past Legia 8:4 in the Champions League but just at that moment, inconsistency. The black and yellows fell victim of Niko Kovac’s hard working Frankfurt team last week.
Dortmund have already lost three Bundesliga matches this season one fewer than the whole of last term. However, they are yet to lose consecutive league games under Thomas Tuchel (W4, D2 after their six league losses under him).
Dortmund do possess a good record against Gladbach however. BVB have lost just one home game against the Foals in the last 18 years, Dortmund did the double over Gladbach last term for the first time since 2009/10. Their 4-0 victory on matchday one was Tuchel’s first league game in charge of BVB.
Another remarkable record is the fact that, Der BVB are unbeaten in 27 league games at home, a record which stretches back to April of last year. BVB have picked up 19 more points from their 23 home league games under Tuchel (59) than their 23 on the road (40). He is the third boss not to lose any of his opening 23 home games in charge of a Bundesliga side.
Gladbach, on the other hand, are suffering a poor season this term. Currently on a winless streak of seven games, Andre Schubert’s men are dawdling in on the wrong side of the Bundesliga table. The Foals have just managed 13 points in 12 games. Their poor away record under Schubert last season, remains intact, but what’s changed is that their amazing home record has been put to bed this season, as they find themselves eighth in the home table of this year (last season, they were fourth!)
Gladbach have collected a league-low three points since match day two (same as HSV). They’ve netted just two goals in that timeframe.
Team News
Thomas Tuchel will have a fit squad ahead of his clash against Borussia Monchengladbach. Neven Subotic and Roman Bürki will be the only two candidates who will miss the game. Marco Reus is fit to start, the German international will be keen to get back on the act, after a long, frustrating injury spell of around six months. He and Mario Götze could start a game for the very first time, after Götze’s move back to Dortmund.
As for the Foals, young defender Marvin Schulz and new signing Mamadou Doucoure remain out due to injury. While star winger Patrick Herrmann’s injury woes continue, agile winger Ibrahima Traore is doubtful for the game after suffering a wound. Mahmoud Dahoud was very influential in their last game, against Hoffenheim. He will be keen to prove himself following an eventful performance vs. TSG.
