Ivan Rakitic will sign a new contract with Barcelona, according to reports. The Croatian midfielder was heavily linked with Manchester United.
Rakitic has been a key figure for the Catalans since his arrival from Sevilla two years ago. But he has seen his stock going downwards after the arrival of Denis Suarez and Andre Gomes. He has started in 10 games this season out of 15 and has been subbed off in a couple of those matches.
He has a rather slow start this year than the previous years. A number of clubs including Manchester United, Juventus and Chelsea had offered him but he preferred to stay at the Nou Camp. Jose Mourinho was very eager to sign him as he has been searching a suitable midfielder alongside Paul Pogba.
Despite a not so good start, the Catalans will offer him an extension to fend off interest from other clubs. His agent also refuted the claims about his client who has a contract till 2019.
