Manchester United have been provided with a major boost as Jose Fonte has turned down a new contract offer from Southampton.
Fonte is believed to be very disappointed with the club as the club didn’t inform him about Everton’s bid in the summer. The Toffees reportedly made an audacious attempt to sign the 32-year-old but the Saints rejected the offer.
Fonte is also unhappy with the club that they failed to offer him an improved contract as per their promise. Everton reportedly promised the defender for a better contract but have failed to do so.
Jose Mourinho has been on the look-out for a defender with Chris Smalling still nursing an injury and Eric Bailly set to depart in January to take part in the African Cup Of Nations.
Southampton are reportedly ready to listen to offers for the defender and any offer in excess of €6m (£5m) would tempt the club to sell him.
