Phil Jones has been a revelation for Manchester United this season. Since Eric Bailly and Chris Smalling got injured, Jose Mourinho has been deploying Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo at the heart of the United defence.
United are on a 10 games unbeaten run since losing to Fenerbahce 2-1. Phil Jones was struggling for game time at the start of the season but has been very impressive since his return. He has earned accolades for his performance from manager Jose Mourinho.
Jones has been linked with a move away from United in January but things could be different. He and Rojo have started seven games together this season and United are unbeaten in those games.
Jones career has been plagued with injuries. He arrived from Blackburn Rovers in 2011 and has appeared in 150 matches for the Red Devils.
The 24 year said he wants to repay the faith Mourinho has put on him.
“I think as I’ve got older I’ve become wiser to recovery and realised how important it is.
“When I was younger you think you know it all and after games you probably just go for some food or sit on your PlayStation. Now I take it a lot more seriously and recover properly because I know I need to give myself the best possible chance to be as fresh and as fit as I can for the next game.”
“It’s brilliant. He’s shown a lot of confidence and belief in me and hopefully I’m repaying that. I’m not a player who needs telling every day in training ‘you’re brilliant, you’re this, you’re that’… but it’s always nice to hear comments from the manager and people around that you’re doing well.”
