According to various reports including Mirror of the English Media, Pep Guardiola has set his sights on Danny Rose, the established Tottenham fullback. Pep Guardiola has Aleksander Kolarov and Gael Clichy as his options for the left back place but the former has been heavily used as a centre back this season which probably suits what Guardiola has in store for him leaving Clichy as the sole option for left back.
The Frenchman hasn’t started many games and nor has he looked impressive and it looks like getting in a left back is a priority for Guardiola in the approaching winter window.
Danny Rose, along the years, has established himself as the primary left-back for both his club Tottenham Hotspur and his national team England. Pacey, powerful, commanding and a good passer of the ball, he’s arguably one of the best in the Premier League and unmatched on his day.
The rise was mostly witnessed as Mauricio Pochettino took the reigns at White Hart Lane and Walker along with Rose where the fullbacks with tenacity, aggression, pace, flair made high-intensity runs and added to the attack time and time again. It was branded that Pochettino’s Tottenham played the best football there was to see last year. Pep Guardiola’s system requires attacking fullbacks as well and Rose is expected to flourish.
Last season, he was an integral part of the Spurs’s defence as they kept an impressive amount of clean-sheets. He involved himself into 64% of the clearances of his work overall. He won 28/44 possible take-ons that are over 50% easily, he suffered more tackles than he made and he had 53% successful passing ability according to squawka.com.
For Pep Guardiola’s system, Danny Rose would be a fantastic addition. He is defensively sound and attacking wise, he is a beast. Coupled with Nolito or maybe even Raheem Sterling, he can form a vital partnership down the left side which could terrorise defences. One more factor is that Danny Rose is still a young developing talent compared to the age of Pep’s fullbacks with both Kolarov and Clichy being over 30. For a future base that Guardiola plans to build at Manchester City, no one comes better than Danny Rose.
However personally, from the point of view of Danny Rose, a move to Manchester City would not be wise. He is a crucial part of something bright happening at the Lane after such a long duration. He’s established himself in Pochettino’s plans and no one can displace him unless he gets injured himself. Mauricio Pochettino’s base has been set at Tottenham and sooner rather than later they’ll be eyeing glory and thinking about probably a first Premier League trophy in over 5 decades.
A move to Manchester City would have to see him have to rise up the ranks again. He has two big competitors for the place and a whole new system to adapt to. No one can really see how a move will turn out. He should stick with Tottenham, stick with Pochettino and try his best to be a part of this golden generation of Spurs.
