Jose Mourinho has turned his attemtion to Chelsea midfielder, John Obi Mikel. The midfielder hasn’t featured in this season under new manager Antonio Conte.
Mikel had almost joined United when he was 19. The Red Devils reportedly had an agreement directly with the player and the club. But Chelsea later claimed that they also had a contract with the player’s agent.
The player also told in an interview he was pressurised to sign for United. But Chelsea eventually signed the midfielder for £16m.
Mikel is right now in his 11th season with the Blues and has won a number of coveted trophies including the Europa League, the League Cup and the Premier League two times and the Champions League.
Mourinho wants to add some reinforcements in the defensive midfield section despite having Morgan Schneiderlin, Marouane Fellaini, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Michael Carrick. Carrick is 35 and has passed his prime while Bastian is yet to feature prominently this season.
Mikel’s contract is due to expire at the end of this season and he is free to sign a pre-contract with any European side.
