According to reports, Liverpool are targeting Napoli midfielder Dries Mertens. The Reds have been very impressive this season. They defeated Stoke City 4in their last match to claim the second spot.
Mertens can be deployed anywhere across the front three. The Belgian has been in devastating form and has scored eight goals in his last three matches including a four-goal haul against Torino.
Napoli coach Maurizio Sarri has preferred the player in a far more attacking role for the last couple of games.
There has been speculation regarding his future as the player was reluctant to extend his contract. His current deal runs out in 2018 and if rumours are to be believed, the Italian club are ready to extend his contract till 2020.
Mertens could be an alternative to Sadio Mane who will be leaving in January to take part in the AFCON. Coutinho will return in January but Mertens could be a like for like replacement for Mane who has been brilliant so far for the Reds.
