Leicester City were brought back to Earth with a thud as Bournemouth gave them another rude reality check beating them 1-0. After a 4-2 win over Pep Guardiola headed Manchester City had sparked talks of a comeback and resurgence of the swashbuckling Leicester we had come to know, this was indeed a downer. The Foxes have been having a difficult time in the League this season but after securing passage through to the Round of 16 and then producing that first half against City, it was thought the lack of distraction helped them.
Marc Pugh, making only his first start of the season was the hero for Bournemouth as he struck the only goal of the game. The win takes Bournemouth back into the top half of the table while Leicester are still a long way from safety.
Let us take a look at how the Leicester Players performed.
RON-ROBERT ZIELER- 5/10
Decent outing but failed to keep a clean sheet. Made an excellent save from Afobe’s initial shot but ultimately failed to keep out the rebound from Pugh although he got a hand to it.
LUIS HERNANDEZ- 4/10
Not a regular fullback and it showed. Simpson was missed and Pugh had the better of him throughout the match.
ROBERT HUTH- 6/10
Was solid alongside Wes Morgan but was substituted at the end as Leicester desperately went for the equaliser. But they might have missed a trick as the big man’s presence was missed during set-pieces and the late plunge.
WES MORGAN- 6/10
Afobe worried him at times but the experienced campaigner dug in and fared pretty well.
CHRISTIAN FUCHS- 5/10
Started off well but as the game advanced and the Foxes were made to chase the game, he could not keep up his game. Grew frustrated too easily.
RIYAD MAHREZ– 6/10
Slipped another delightful ball for Vardy but this time the Englishman could not finish it. His initial link up with Vardy was a delight to watch but grew anonymous as the game went on.
ANDY KING- 5/10
Could not build on his excellent goal from last week. Squandered possession too easily at times.
DANIEL AMARTEY- 4/10
Has been given enough opportunities but does not seem to be contributing a whole lot to the team.
MARC ALBRIGHTON- 6/10
Busy day on the left and put in a good shift.
ISLAM SLIMANI- 5/10
Not his best day in office. Missed a good chance when he completely mishit a volley.
JAMIE VARDY- 6/10
Looked lively after a wonderful comeback but Nathan Ake kept tight to him and shackled him well. Missed a 1 v 1 with Boruc.
