Jose Mourinho has asked Manchester United to prepare a new contract for Juan Mata. The Spaniard has been very consistent since his arrival from Chelsea in 2014.
He reportedly had a fallout with then Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho and the Portuguese decided to sell him to one of their archrivals.
The midfielder’s current deal runs out in 2018 and he is currently on a £130,000-a-week wage. Although United are right now enduring a difficult season, Mourinho is satisfied with the attacking midfielder’s performance (despite dropping him in the last game) and wants to reward him with a new contract.
The 28-year-old has made 12 appearances in the Premier League this season and has netted three goals.
Clouds were hovering over his future after Mourinho was appointed the United manager but it seems things have settled down after the midfielder has established himself into the starting lineup (the last match notwithstanding).
Antonio Valencia, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Michael Carrick are all expected to extend their stay with the Red Devils.
