Ronald Koeman’s Everton revolution seems to be showing no signs of slowing down. He has already added Charlton whizkid Ademola Lookman, who will be joining up in January. But he supposedly wants to sign a player who can have an immediate impact on the team. The Dutchman has already added Ashley Williams, Enner Valencia, Yannick Bolasie, Idrissa Gueye and Marten Stekelenburg to the squad in summer and going by the looks of this, there will be further changes in the next couple of windows.
Everton have had a fairly pleasing season thus far. The Toffees had started off in brilliant fashion and won four of their five opening games. But it was too good to be true with the change in manager and the addition a couple of new signings who usually take the time to settle in their new surroundings and get on the same page as their teammates. And it proved to be the case as they have just two wins in the next eleven games.
But recent wins against Arsenal and Leicester City coupled with the start, they find themselves in the 7th spot.
The Toffees were expected to move in the window but the injury to Yannick Bolasie made it certain. Valencia, who is primarily a striker, has been played on the right wing and has looked good till now. But their main issue will be the fact that their only recognised centre-forward is Romelu Lukaku and after that the options run dry. Lookman has been signed but at 19-years old, isn’t expected to deliver immediately.
And Saido Berahino’s West Bromwich situation has made them sit up and explore the possibility of going down the route.
Being an English player with obvious potential, his stock never really decreased. His stand-off with the Baggies has resulted in a precious year and a half being wasted. But with his contract expiring in the summer, it is understood that West Brom will be looking to instigate a bidding process for him with a host of English clubs apparently interested.
His career at the Hawthorns came to standstill ever since the lust of Tottenham Hotspur got into his head and in trying to engineer moves, he fell out with the equally stubborn board.
But under Koeman, he can start anew and will have a hell lot to prove after his tantrums and sulking of almost a year. He can be played in a front two alongside Lukaku. He can also be utilised on the wings or behind a striker. Evertonians are understandably a bit sceptical with his disciplinary history but it is expected that under Koeman he can rediscover his early career form and grow into a better and a more lethal striker.
