Everton appointing Ronald Koeman in the summer has worked pretty well for the club but there is still a lot of room for improvement. They are seventh in the League table right now after winning against champions Leicester City 2-0 on the Boxing Day. The Toffees are lacking consistency and there are too many fringe players on their books whom Koeman could consider selling.
Everton have a good long-term project in place and for that, Koeman is looking for young and quality players and Ademola Lookman has been a prime target of the club for a long time now.
Reports are claiming that Everton have secured a £10m deal for the League One forward and the deal will be official as soon as the winter transfer window opens. The Charlton Athletic winger has been the Addicks’ best player by far since breaking into the first team last season and has gone on to make 48 appearances since making his debut away to MK Dons in November 2015.
He is regarded as the best teenage prospect in English football right now and wrapping up his signing would be a huge statement of intent from the Toffees.
The 19-year-old has become a key player for Charlton since making his debut in November of last year, scoring five goals in 24 games before bagging six goals in 25 appearances so far this term. The Addicks are known for their academy in England and Lookman looks like the next big thing coming out of their famed academy. Even though he only plays in League One, Dele Alli’s success story at the top level from lower Leagues has proven that if you are good enough, you will succeed at whatever league you are playing.
A quick and tricky forward, who is capable of playing either as a number nine or a wide forward on the left flank, Lookman has shown that he has what it takes to make a name for himself in the Premier League in coming years. Just 19 years of age, Lookman burst onto the scene with Charlton last season. Even though the Addicks struggled as a unit and were demoted to the League One by the end of the season, Lookman did shine as an individual.
Blessed with a blistering pace and brilliant ability on the ball, the 19-year-old can play anywhere across the final third and is a big threat with his direct style of play. He will certainly provide a lot of options to Koeman and we know that the Dutchman is not scared to throw young players into the first team.
Lookman has the potential to reach the top and will certainly be a big success at Goodison Park in the long run. £10m seems a big price for a 19-year-old who is not proven in the Premier League but it could be a brilliant long-term investment.
