Real Madrid are aiming a long-shot of a transfer with unsettled Wolfsburg star Julian Draxler. The news of Oscar moving to China for a whopping 60 million pounds has not only taken the footballing world by storm but it also seems to have led other clubs to reorganise their plans.
As per latest reports, Real are willing to bring in Draxler after Oscar moves to China as Conte will want to use that amount on Bernabeu’s forgotten man James Rodriguez. It would be a profitable deal for Real as Chelsea are expected to table a bid of 75 million euros to convince Los Blancos to sell Rodriguez. Draxler could come at half the price.
Draxler has been a long-term target for top clubs in Europe with Arsenal being the favourites to sign the 23-year-old last summer but a deal couldn’t be worked out. Draxler had even publicised his willingness to leave Wolfsburg after the Euros, which led the midfielder to trickle down the pecking order.
However, his club is unlikely to prevent him from moving out coming January and most clubs are on red alert. With Arsenal already opting for Lucas Perez after missing out on Draxler last time, Real have a realistic chance of landing the attacking midfielder now.
Draxler’s form has also plummeted this season assisting only once in 11 outings for Wolfsburg. His bad patch doesn’t obviously reveal his true quality. The fans who have seen him play are no strangers to his dribbling prowess, which is quite phenomenal. He is equally adept at taking long shots and providing impeccable crosses from the wings. His average passing accuracy is 82% and shot accuracy is 67%.
Real could have a vibrant option in the middle alongside Modric, who could take their attacking third to a different level. With Los Blancos entering the UEFA Champions League knockout stages, they would be needing more quality in their squad.
The only concern with Draxler would be his lack of defensive contributions. But, that wouldn’t be a huge concern in La Liga where the game is less open as compared to Germany and England.
A major concern here will be Real’s transfer ban. And this deal would only be possible if Real successfully appeals against it. Paris Saint-Germain are another high-profile suitor for the German international and if Real want to land him at Bernabeu, they have to do it fast.
The bitterest thing, however, would be if Barcelona get their hands on Draxler and Real remain crippled with the ban.
