Cesar Azpilicueta has put to paper on a new contract that will keep him at the club until 2020. Azpilicueta has been a silent warrior for Chelsea since his arrival from Marseille in 2012. He has started all Premier League matches this season and has been very impressive in the new role-playing centre backs in the three-man defence.
He will be making his 200th appearance for the Blues against Sunderland on Wednesday. Basically a full back, the 27-year has accustomed himself beautifully in the new 3-4-3 system.
He has 18 caps for Spain and has won a number of trophies for the Blues including the Premier League and Europa League.
The player said, “I’m really happy to have signed a new contract.
“Since I arrived here, my target was to progress as a player and win trophies. This new contract gives me the chance to continue my relationship with the club. That’s what I wanted, and obviously I’m really happy here.
“We’ve had some really good moments so far this season. We have a new manager with new ideas, and I’m really happy to be working with him.
“Obviously we can still improve, but the long-term aim for us is to win trophies. That is what we all want — the players, the manager and the fans.”
