Chelsea have joined Liverpool and Manchester United in the race to sign Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk.
Chelsea have been the only team in the Premier League this season to register six consecutive clean sheets. Despite very impressive defensive performances, Antonio Conte wants to strengthen his defence and has targeted the defender.
David Luiz, Cesar Azpilicueta and Gary Cahill has been rock solid in the three-man defence as the Blues have conceded only two goals in their last eight games.
Van Dijk arrived from Celtic for £13m and has gone on to establish himself as one of the best centre backs in the Premier League. The Dutchman has been in much demand as Jürgen Klopp and Jose Mourinho also want to lure the player to their respective clubs.
The defender has a release clause of £25m and that shouldn’t be a problem for Chelsea as any top defender valued under £30m is considered to be a bargain buy these days.
