Chelsea have announced that midfielder Oscar will join Shanghai SIPG in January for a fee of £60 million. The Brazilian midfielder was signed from Internacional in 2012 for £25m and has scored 38 goals in 203 appearances for the team.
Oscar has been frozen by Antonio Conte this season as Cesc Fabregas, N’Golo Kanté and Nemanja Matic have been preferred before him. The 25-year old has appeared in only nine games this season, with only five starts.
A club statement read, “Chelsea Football Club and Shanghai SIPG have agreed terms for the permanent transfer of Oscar. The 25-year-old will join the Chinese Super League team at the beginning of the January transfer window.”
He was a very influential player when Chelsea last won the Premier League in 2014/15. The attacking midfielder will earn a massive £400,000 a week.
Andres Villas Boas, currently the manager of Shanghai SIPG, had tried to sign the player when he was at the helm of Tottenham but talks didn’t materialise at the time.
