Celtic are truly up and running in Scottish football right now. Brendan Rodgers has already established himself as a hero at Parkhead in such a short amount of time and has already won the Scottish League Cup. It was only his first trophy as a manager and the 100th one for Celtic in their history but there seems plenty more to come in coming months.
Celtic’s prime target right now will be to win an invincible domestic treble if Rodgers manages to do that, which will go down in the history books as a massive achievement.
Even though Celtic are doing so well at the moment, there is always room for improvement and Rodgers will certainly want to make use the transfer window to bolster his squad. According to The Independent, Celtic are keeping tabs on Charlton striker Ademola Lookman but Premier League’s cash-rich side Everton are also in the hunt.
The Bhoys have plenty of attacking talent at their disposal already, given that striker Leigh Griffiths hit as many as 40 goals last season. Summer signing Moussa Dembele from Fulham came in and stole the limelight from him. However, Dembele’s sudden rise to prominence has alerted a number of big clubs across Europe and the Hoops might struggle to keep him at the club in the long run. Probably that is why they are monitoring Lookman.
The 19-year-old has become a key player for Charlton since making his debut in November of last year, scoring five goals in 24 games before bagging six goals in 22 appearances so far this term. The Addicks are known as one of the best academies in England and Lookman looks like the next big thing coming out of their famed academy.
A quick and tricky forward, who is capable of playing either as a number nine or a wide forward on the left flank, Lookman has shown that he has what it takes to make a name for himself at the big stage. Just 19 years of age, Lookman burst onto the scene with Charlton last season. Even though the Addicks struggled as a unit and were demoted to the League One by the end of the season from Championship, Lookman did shine as an individual.
Blessed with a blistering pace and brilliant ability on the ball, the 19-year-old can play anywhere across the final third and is a big threat with his direct style of play. He is still a raw talent and needs proper guidance to become a quality player in the coming years. Rodgers has shown that he is never reluctant or scared to give his young players opportunities and the player will have the chance to develop under him.
