Middlesbrough striker Jordan Rhodes is a player who is wanted by several clubs in the winter after Aitor Karanka, the Middlesbrough manager has admitted that he would allow the player to leave the club if he wishes to in the winter.
Having joined Boro only in the winter of last year, Rhodes made a significant contribution to the Riverside club with his 6 goals and two assists from 18 matches in the Championship, with many of those being absolutely vital for the team as they gained automatic promotion to the Premier division.
The striker who spent his youth career at Barnsley and Ipswich Town Made a name for himself when he moved to Huddersfield Town from Ipswich in 2009. Huddersfield were in League One and the striker when given a chance to play regularly in the first team squad produced the goods scoring 23 goals in his first season.
In 2011/12 season, Rhodes almost single-handedly ensured the promotion of Huddersfield to the Championship when he struck 36 times from 40 games in the league and 40 in 45 from all appearances in the season. The striker was named the League One’s player of The Season due to his excellent displays throughout the season.
His astonishing form attracted many interests and Blackburn was successful to secure his signature the following season. In his very first season, he was named the club’s player of the year as he maintained his breathtaking goalscoring exploits with 28 goals from 48 matches in all competitions that year. After four years at Ewood Park, and scoring 85 goals in total, the Scotsman finally made his way to the Riverside on 2015.
Rhodes has not been used much by Karanka this term, making only four appearances in the Premier League, three of them from the bench. As the Boro boss remarked that he will be willing to let the player leave if he wishes to in the winter, several potential suitors registered their willingness to take the striker on board. Burnley and Hull City are both keen on the 26-year-old goalscorer while Aston Villa, Sheffield Wednesday, Norwich City, Brighton, Derby and Celtic have also expressed interest.
A player of such wonderful goalscoring ability and record would be excellent for clubs like Burnley and Hull City. Also with a vast experience of playing in the lower leagues, Rhodes would be a huge addition for all the others interested in him.
It looks like January will be the time when he ends up leaving the Riverside club but whether he opts to remain in the Premier League or drops down a level to the Championship remains to be seen.
