In the blue part of Merseyside, Ronald Koeman presides as the boss of Everton and his job so far has been a tough one. His side still hasn’t set well and results are inconsistent but Everton looks like a determined force. However, during a period of struggle, rumours about players are quick to appear.
Ross Barkley has struggled to make an impact this season under Koeman and his drop in the level of execution expected from him hasn’t helped the side at all. Koeman is in deliberation about it and he has said so in the press conference but he is fully aware of Barkley’s potential and unless tapped successfully, the lad might just slip away and seek pastures anew
The rebuilding job at White Hart Lane, however, has gone in full swing this season and the soul job of Mauricio Pochettino was roping in back-ups and strengthening the team and increasing the depth. The team has found itself ousted from the Champions League due to poor results and finishing third in the group meant that they would drop down to Europa League.
Depth is really a case Spurs should consider. Secondly, the lack of firepower up front at at the beginning too came under scrutiny as Harry Kane’s injury saw Spurs struggle up front and Vincent Janssen’s torrid form didn’t help either and nor did other player step up.
Ross Barkley has been linked heavily with Tottenham and for the right amount of price, it is said that Koeman will settle down to accept the bid. The main question is what will Barkley add to Tottenham?
Questions will be quick to appear because dropping Alli and Eriksen both looks out of the question so if Barkley is signed, it will only mean that Pochettino will adjust with tactics to fit the talented Englishman. His role might be more of an auxiliary striker that can supplement Harry Kane’s contributions as well as lend more assists.
Secondly, he is a player who thrives on the link up play and with a world class playmaker like Eriksen beside him, he will improve the chemistry of the team on the pitch and will act as someone who might bind the attack and deliver. Also keeping in mind that Tottenham have their tally of young Englishmen including Dier and Alli and adding one more to the mix only improves team chemistry off the pitch as well.
Thirdly, Barkley is known to be an attractor who lures defenders through trickery and ball control and that should definitely free up the burden of other attackers and stretch the opposition’s defence. His quick decisive movement will flatter any defender’s attempts to go for the ball. He has won 63% number of take-on going forward and also has suffered 41% fouls in just the 16 appearances he has made.
Barkley is a hot prospect and Pochettino always likes youngsters in the team. If Tottenham are pushing to reach new heights, Ross Barkley will add a lot to their quality!
