According to reports, Arsenal set to open new contract talks with Olivier Giroud and Francis Coquelin.
Giroud’s future has been hanging in balance after he made just two starts in the top flight this season. Alexis Sanchez has been preferred over him as Arsene Wenger has been using the Chilean as a centre-forward this term and has been quite successful. The Frenchman has 18 months left on his current contract and is expected to sign a one-year extension.
Coquelin has been a key figure in Arsene Wenger’s plans. With the absence of Santi Cazorla, his performance has given Wenger the much needed solidity in the midfield.
Coquelin’s current contract is due to expire in two and a half years but the Gunners are trying to tie him up to the club for a longer period and are willing to double his wage to his current wage of £40,000.
It would be a much needed boost to Wenger who is still trying a contract negotiation with Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez.
