Pochettino’s men went down to a revived Manchester United side despite putting up a decent show and not allowing them breathing space at Old Trafford. In general, Spurs lacked a certain bite in their attack and failed to trouble De Gea consistently in the game. Here are the player ratings for the away side.
Lloris (8.5/10) – Had to make some astounding saves to keep his team in the game. Was quite rooted for the Pogba free kick though and couldn’t have done much about the goal. Apart from that, he kept many rockets repeatedly fired in by Ibrahimović and Pogba.
Walker (8/10) – He totally shut out Antony Martial on the left flank. His athletic display got him booked, though, but he was effective both in the defence and attack.
Alderweireld (7.5/10) – Tottenham are hugely relieved to have him back in the squad. Although he survived the penalty shout for fouling Herrera, he looked solid otherwise.
Vertonghen (8/10) – He was brilliant as usual. A defence leader, he kept his back line intact. His block from Mkhitaryan was out of this world and it could have ended the game quite early. He was hugely responsible for giving Spurs a chance to equalise right till the last minutes.
Rose (8/10) – Although he was booed after his challenge that led to Mkhitaryan being stretchered off, his commitment towards the game is unquestionable. What a competitor! He went up, attacked and tracked down Mkhitaryan in a flash.
Wanyama (7/10) – He didn’t have the best of games. He was booked for his rash tackles and above all that, he missed the best chance of the game from a delightful cross by Eriksen. It was an absolute sitter.
Dembele (8/10) – Yet another brilliant display from one of the best midfielders in the league. He looked unstoppable at times and his little battles with Pogba were also terrific.
Eriksen (8.5/10) – While many think Kane to be Spurs’ biggest weapon but in reality, it is this man here. He was a constant threat to the United defence. His dexterity on both his legs was a treat to watch. He tested De Gea with a brilliant shot and was unfortunate not to find a corner with his long range efforts.
Alli (7.5/10) – A lot was expected from him. However, except a few glimpses of tricks and turns occasionally, he was pretty quiet.
Son (8/10) – He is quick as a bullet at times and Valencia was given a nightmare on the right flank. He forced a good save from de Gea but was subbed off early. Was good in patches.
Kane (7/10) – He was a threat up front at times but his horrible mistake in the midfield overshadows everything he did throughout the match.
Sissoko (8/10) – He played 30 minutes and Darmian was unable to stop him every time he went up. A beast of a midfielder, he went past United players like a boulder breaking into a building. The fans will hope he brings some consistency to his game.
