Just one and a half week back, Rangers locked horns with Heart of Midlothian at Tynecastle and lost 2-0. Mark Warburton’s side came back to winning ways after that having beaten Aberdeen 2-1 last weekend and now they took a revenge for their loss last week against Hearts.
Mark Warburton’s side now lead Hearts by five points and go four clear of Aberdeen, who have a game in hand. Celtic, with three games in hand, lead the division.
The hosts were the better team throughout the game and could have won the game by a bigger margin if their finishing would have been better. Hearts had netted through Don Cowie early, but the midfielder was flagged offside. After that, it was all Rangers. Defender Rob Kiernan headed in James Tavernier’s free-kick to score his first ever goal in the famous Blue shirt since joining the club.
Youngster Barrie McKay doubled the lead after half-time after collecting the ball from a Lee Wallace throw in. Rangers could have scored more but the strikers were wasteful in front of the goal, especially Martyn Waghorn since he came on.
Here are the Rangers player ratings from the game.
Wes Foderingham: 6.5/10
Did not have too many saves to make. Was composed and calm and distribution was impressive.
Lee Hodson: 7/10
Was solid defensive wise throughout the game. Bombarded forward on occasions but whenever he did, he was a menace.
Rob Kiernan: 7.5/10
Solid in defence. Passed well. Showed composure in intercepting dangers and scored with a brilliant header to give his side the lead.
Danny Wilson: 7.5/10
The Scottish international was brilliant throughout the game not only with his defending and leadership but also with his excellent ability to pick out a pass.
Lee Wallace: 7/10
Bombarded forward on a regular basis and should have ended up on the scoresheet.
James Tavernier: 7.5/10
Despite being a natural right-back, Tavernier enjoyed his game in midfield. Passed well and set up Kiernan for the opener from a free kick.
Andy Halliday: 7/10
Controlled the game. Protected the back four and sprayed the ball across the pitch for his teammates.
Jason Holt: 7/10
As usual, Holt was energetic and industrious. Passed really well too.
Kenny Miller: 6/10
Should have scored. Even though he was wasteful in front of the goal, his overall game was good.
Joe Garner: 6.5/10
Even though he did not score, he worked really hard in creating openings for the side.
Barrie McKay: 7/10
The youngster had a delightful game against Hearts. He pulled the strings with his direct runs and pace and deliveries into the box. Doubled Rangers’ lead.
