Manchester City went 10 points behind Chelsea as an early Wijnaldum goal was enough to see Liverpool notch up their 4th consecutive victory and end the year on an absolute high. They maintain their 6-point gap with Chelsea and by the looks of it, it might well be a 2-horse race this season.
The game, which promised a lot did not really meet up to the expectations as both technically brilliant teams cancelled each other out. In the end, it was decided by the finest of margins- a headed goal by the former Newcastle United man who scored only his 2nd goal in a Liverpool shirt.
Manchester City hardly threatened in the first half and surprisingly Liverpool were more than happy to sit on their 1-goal cushion, so early in the game. The away team did bring it up a few notches after the restart but the Reds held on for a crucial win.
The BEST & The WORST Manchester City Players Rated From Their Loss Vs Liverpool
BRAVO- 5/10
Failing to convince. Somehow it is always too easy to score past him. Miscued a fisted clearance also which could have turned dangerous.
ZABALETA- 5/10
Backed away too much and gave Lallana all the time and space in the world to pick out Wijnaldum with his left foot. While he recovered well, the moment was gone.
STONES- 6/10
Tried his best. No major guffaws. Had some decisive touches in the second half, though. Better display.
OTAMENDI- 5/10
Otamendi, along with Bravo, fails to inspire any confidence. Always a touch away from an error. City need a calmer and quieter personality at the back!
KOLAROV- 5/10
Took an eternity to react as he was easily outjumped by Wijnaldum. Pep seems to love him but will likely be a part of a defensive facelift.
