Everton rallied to get a 2-1 win and get all three points against Arsenal in a really good contest at the Goodison Park. Everton went down in the 20th minute itself when Alexis Sanchez’s free-kick deflected off Ashley Williams which in turn wrong-footed Stekelenburg.
Everton fought really hard and were rewarded in the 44th minute when Baines’ pinpoint cross was headed in by Seamus Coleman. Everton continued their good work and eventually lead through Ashley Williams’ header in the 86th minute. Below are Everton’s individual player ratings.
Marteen Stekelenburg: 7.5/10
Although he made some decent saves and punches in the last few minutes, he was a bit shaky with his footwork.
Leighton Baines: 8/10
Baines helped Everton in changing wings really quickly with some good cross-field balls and put in some decent crosses as well. His assist for the first goal to Coleman was spot on.
Seamus Coleman: 8/10
Coleman showed really good defensive work and was also quite influential offensively.
He also got the important equaliser with an excellent header.
Phil Jagielka: 8/10
Jagielka did really well defensively, was everywhere in the first-half and made some vital interceptions. He also showed some good defensive leadership and was a threatening presence in opposition’s box.
He was sent off in the stoppage time after he received the second yellow for tripping Perez.
Idrissa Gueye: 7.5/10
Gueye did well to slot in defensively when the centre-backs split and linked midfield to the attack quite well, with some incisive passing.
