Everton’s poor run of form continues as they let Watford grab a comeback win against them earlier today. Ronald Koeman started his reign at Goodison Park on a really strong note but the impact is getting bleaker and bleaker with time. After this loss, Everton have won just one of their last nine Premier League games and quite expectedly, Koeman will be a concerned man as will be the fans.
Romelu Lukaku ended his goal drought with a nice early strike to give the Toffees lead in the 17th minute, slotting in from a perfect pass played by Gareth Barry. Watford’s summer signing from Anderlecht Stefano Okaka made his impact as he scored his first goal for the Hornets. He scored the first and the third for Walter Mazzarri’s side and in between, defender Sebastian Prodl struck home from a whipped cross by Jose Holebas.
Here are the Everton ratings from their loss against Watford.
Maarten Stekelenburg: 6/10
The experienced Dutch custodian has flattered to deceive so far this season after his summer move to Everton but he did not do much wrong against Watford. It was the back four of the Toffees that exposed him time and time again.
Seamus Coleman: 4/10
Lacked his natural attacking forays. Was nervous in defending, too! Lost the ball too many times.
Ashley Williams: 4/10
Koeman bought the Welsh international in the summer to shore up Everton’s sloppy defence but that has not been the case at all. Another poor display from the former Swansea skipper.
Ramiro Funes Mori: 5/10
The Argentine started the game pretty strongly but slowly faded with time. Was decent aerially but was exploited time and time again due to lack of composure.
Leighton Baines: 4.5/10
Hardly offered anything going forward and was poor defensively, too.
Gareth Barry: 6/10
Passed really well. Made an assist in his 609th Premier League game as he drew level with Frank Lampard’s record. Could not protect his back four well, though.
Idrissa Gueye: 5/10
Was all over the pitch and tackled well. But hardly had any end product to his industry. Gave away the free kick from which Watford took the lead.
James McCarthy: 4.5/10
Started in an advanced midfield role but could not create too many opportunities.
Gerard Deulofeu: 5.5/10
Had a hit or miss kind of game, exactly what we expect from him. One moment of quality was followed by a long spell of averageness.
Kevin Mirallas: 4/10
Did absolutely nothing throughout the game.
Romelu Lukaku: 7/10
Scored two good goals to come back to scoring form.
Substitutes
Ross Barkley: 5/10
Did not offer much after replacing Gueye.
Enner Valencia: 6/10
Added more spark to the game after coming on and should start soon.
Aaron Lennon: 6.5/10
Played just seven minutes of regulation time and set up a goal.
