It was the biggest occasion in Scottish football to end the amazing year of 2016 with. Ibrox hosted the famous Old Firm Derby on the New Year’s Eve and we witnessed a cracker of a game that was pretty high-octane and end to end. Celtic claimed another win over their arch rivals and this time coming back from behind. Rangers fans will be gutted with the fact that they started the game so well but still could not find a way to stop rampant Celtic.
The game finished 1-2 in favour of the visitors Celtic who keep their unbeaten record across all domestic competitions under Rodgers intact and move another step closer to the Premiership title. With this win, Celtic are now leading the title race with 19 points and it is highly unlikely that the title race will become competitive once again this season.
Veteran Kenny Miller gave Rangers a very early lead but Celtic showed their quality to come back and win the game. Moussa Dembele equalised later in the first half and Scott Sinclair found the winner in the 70th minute. Here are the Celtic player ratings from the game-
Craig Gordon: 7/10
Was tested more than any other game. A Good save to deny Holt but his anticipation to palm the ball away from onrushing Waghorn was excellent. Also saved Wilson’s header.
Mikael Lustig: 7/10
Was a regular threat attacking wise. Could have done better defensively, though.
Erik Sviatchenko: 6/10
Was the guilty party for the goal. Improved later on which is why his rating is not as bad as his mistake.
Jozo Simunovic: 7/10
Strong defensive display. Good tackle on the edge of the box to intercept a ball to Holt. Read the game well.
Emilio Izaguirre: 5/10
Was not much of a threat going forward. Rangers exploited his flank time and time again. Not the best game from the Honduran.
