Arsenal suffered their second defeat of this season in all competitions on Tuesday as Everton beat them 2-1 at Goodison Park. It was not a convincing display from the Gunners. Arguably, the decisions from the referee went against them but there is no room for excuses right now. If Chelsea beat Sunderland tonight, Arsenal will drop six points behind the league leaders. Although the Gunners have a pretty good team, there is still a sense that they can better in terms of personnel.
Arsenal are said to be monitoring the situation of Porto winger Yacine Brahimi and could make a January bid for him as per ESPN. The player has a deal keeping him at Porto until 2019 and is said to have a huge £50.5m release clause. The Portuguese giants reportedly rejected a £34m bid from Everton for the player on deadline day but there is still interest in the Algerian superstar from a host of Premier League clubs.
A special player and Arsenal type player
Arsenal are famous for their attractive football regardless of the result and a technically gifted player like Brahimi would be a perfect fit at the Emirates. There are very few players in the world who can trump the Algerian’s insane dribbling skills. The 26-year-old is virtually unplayable on his day. Although he is most effective as a left winger, Brahimi can be deployed as a number ten or even as a right winger. He likes to drift inside like most modern-day inverted wingers but possesses a good crossing ability.
Blessed with a brilliant close control and an amazing vision, the Algerian international knows when to release the ball and can terrify any defence in the world. He is a magical player when it comes to technique and dribbling skills. With Alexis Sanchez recently enjoying his game as a number nine, Brahimi could make the left flank position his own. Yes, Alex Iwobi has done a decent job out there but still needs to learn a lot and is not a player who should start week in week out right now.
The players who possess the best technical skills, often tend to be selfish and can be frustrating at times. If Brahimi has to succeed at Arsenal, he has to cut his selfishness which he should be able to do. The player has everything it takes to become a success at Arsenal in coming years and will bolster Wenger’s attacking options to a good extent.
