Antonio Conte has admitted that it’s very tough to choose between Nemanja Matic and Cesc Fabregas. Fabregas replaced Matic in the starting lineup as the latter was ruled out with a calf injury for the last game.
Fabregas was impressive against Manchester City in what was his second start of this season. He was also the provider to Diego Costa’s goal which happened to be the equaliser against Manchester City. Chelsea eventually went on to win the match 3-1.
Fabregas has been linked with a couple of clubs and AC Milan are one of them. Matic and N’Golo Kante have been the first choice pairing in the middle of the park for the Chelsea boss since he has taken up the 3-4-3 formation. Conte had earlier hinted that the Spanish midfielder might have a role to play in his plans and might not leave the club in January.
Conte said that he will make his decision on Saturday, “I hope to have these difficult [selection] decisions in every game. It means that I have great competition and this means the level in our squad is improving and raising.
“I think Cesc played a good game against City and took the opportunity from the first minute. He played very well.
“Now for the next game I have a choice of four midfielders: Matic, [N’Golo] Kante, Fabregas and [Nathaniel] Chalobah. I have to take the best decision for the team. After Saturday, I’ll have my ideas more clear.”
