Spurs’ season has been nothing special thus far. The Lilywhites find themselves 10 points behind Chelsea in the Premier League race while they also had to bid Champions League football goodbye from the group stage. Mauricio Pochettino will definitely be a concerned man right now and with the transfer window approaching in almost a fortnight, he will certainly try to bolster his squad in January.
Marcelo Brozovic has been a player in demand for a long time now and could be quitting Inter Milan in January as per reports. The Nerazzurri’s poor run of form this season could well be another reason. Inter have been under three different managers this season and none of them could spur them on so far, so a quality player like Brozovic has every reason to feel frustrated.
Spurs are looking to take advantage of the Croat’s discontentment at San Siro and bring him to White Hart Lane on a loan deal with an option to make it permanent as per recent reports. Croatia have produced some world class players, especially midfielders in the recent past. Spurs had Luka Modric, who has gone on to win two Champions League title at Real Madrid and has inspired his country to good performances in international tournaments.
Two iconic Croatian players had played for Spurs over the years- Niko Kranjcar and Modric. We could get to see another Croatian midfielder enjoy success in the white jersey. Brozovic is not as elegant as Modric, who still remains a hero at White Hart Lane, but he is a hard working player, a working class hero. His excellent work rate, versatility, adaptability make him an ideal player for Spurs’ setup.
The Croat is a box to box midfielder by trade but can also play as a number six or a number ten and even on the flanks. A Premier League player to whom the 24-year-old can be compared is Aaron Ramsey. There is an X-factor missing in the Spurs side right now and Brozovic could prove to be that missing link.
He is just 24 years of age right now and can excel a lot under a manager like Pochettino who is an excellent mentor. Pochettino’s system is based pressing and often counter attacks. A complete and versatile midfielder like Brozovic would be a welcome addition to the North London giants. At the same time, Spurs would make a big statement in the transfer market if they can wrap up the signature of the midfield dynamo for whom almost every Premier League club were in.
