Leicester City shook the world last season winning the title against all the odds. It was a public fact that they would not be able to replicate the same kind of form this season but what we experienced so far this season, has been a massive disappointment. Let alone be a title challenge, the Foxes are not even in the top half and slowly drifting into the relegation zone. Claudio Ranieri managed to bring his first League title in his whole career last season with Leicester City but now he has a serious task on his hands to help his side get back to their best.
Leicester City needs to use the January transfer window to bolster their squad to inspire themselves to the top half of the table. Here are three players they should go for-
Geoffrey Kondogbia
The French midfield dynamo has found life in Italy tough to adapt to and is reportedly on his way out of Inter Milan in near future. Just 23 years of age, Kondogbia has a big future ahead of him and just because he has flattered to deceive in Italy, does not mean that he would struggle in England.
We have seen a massive Kante-sized hole in Leicester’s midfield this season after the Frenchman left for Chelsea. Kante’s fellow Frenchman Kondogbia can potentially fill in that gap. A big guy who can tackle, who can defend, who can attack, who can dribble- Kondogbia can prove to be the missing link in the jigsaw for the Foxes.
Jose Fonte
Jose Fonte seems to be on his way out of Southampton after rejecting a contract extension at St. Mary’s. Leicester City have Champions League football to attract the Euro Cup winner with Portugal and also do have the money to keep him content.
With his enormous experience, Fonte can shore up the Foxes’ leaky defence. The partnership of Morgan and Huth, that worked wonders last season, has been dismal this season and Fonte, despite being 32, can prove to be a solid addition.
Mamadou Sakho
It is sad to see a player of Mamadou Sakho’s calibre not getting any playing time for Liverpool after his feud with the manager Jürgen Klopp. Sakho’s time seems up at Anfield and the Foxes can use this situation to their advantage. The Frenchman has plenty of reputation both at club level and at international level and needs to recover that. Ranieri should give him the chance to save his career.
Still only 26 years of age, he has his best days ahead of him and can potentially bring the glory days back at King Power once again.
