Sunderland’s rejuvenating run is turning out to be an inspiring story for many. The club had hit the rock bottom from where matters couldn’t possibly have deteriorated anymore. They had lost 8 of their opening 10 games, with 9 first team players injured and were lingering at the bottom of the table until October-end. Moyes had made the worst start to a season in Premier League history with Sunderland.
It was an unexpected win over Bournemouth that started to turn things around. The Black Cats have now seen two convincing wins since then over Hull City and defending Leicester City. With first-team players now returning to the squad, Sunderland are slowly treading out of the relegation zone and could well repair to some extent the severe damage done to their campaign.
However, Moyes will look to bring in fresh recruitments if the Black Cats want to continue their reviving run as the season enters the second half of the season. T4O looks at 3 players Sunderland should consider signing to continue their resurrection.
Moussa Marega
Jermain Defoe has pulled Sunderland single-handedly at times and he is still doing that although Victor Anichebe has eased out much of the burden from his ageing shoulders. Moyes is desperately looking to beef up his attack in January and FC Porto striker Moussa Marega could be a brilliant option.
The 183 cm forward could prove to be a decent aerial threat in the Sunderland squad, who otherwise lack tall players up front. Marega’s stamina could be a big asset for the team’s playing style.
Sunderland have mostly attacked the counter, and the need for their strikers to work hard is imperative. Marega could be an ideal addition to starting their season second half refuelled.
