The January transfer window is fast approaching and it will provide an opportunity for a host of clubs to reassess their option and make the requisite tweaks and alterations to their squads. While the number of transfers are comparatively lower in January than that of the summer, the decisions taken are nonetheless extremely important. They have the capacity to either make or break a season.
Teams which are struggling, see this as a final opportunity to infuse some fresh blood with hopefully better quality and make a last ditch attempt to come out of the mire and climb higher up the table. The options are trimmed and thus the scouting is extremely important. A number of teams also try and cover for injuries to their main players and hence ideally look for loan options to last the season.
Teams leading the table or involved in a number of competitions with the ambition to go all the way add to their squad to get that extra push and keep their aura of surprise and unpredictability intact.
The January transfer window has produced some of the finest transfers over the years. The transfers of Luis Suarez, Nemanja Vidic, Gary Cahill and Javier Mascherano standout amongst a host of them.
Let us take a look at 3 players who can make a move this January-
MORGAN SCHNEIDERLIN
The former Southampton midfielder has cut a forlorn figure at Manchester United this season. His career has stagnated at Old Trafford and this season has been worse with opportunities hardly coming by. Resultantly, he has been linked with an exit. And it is something which he has to do and accept his time as a Red Devil a failed opportunity. Clubs such as West Bromwich and Everton have been heavily linked and a transfer is a high possibility.
MEMPHIS DEPAY
Another Manchester United player. Another victim of Jose Mourinho’s reign at Old Trafford. The Dutch international has failed to make an impact with Martial, Lingard, Rashford and Rooney all ahead of him in the pecking order.
He possesses enough talent to still be an enticing target for clubs. His international displays have been good lately and Everton are supposedly weighing up a move in light of the injury to Yannick Bolasie.
LUCAS LEIVA
The veteran midfielder seems to have run his race at Anfield. Used mainly as a backup option for bit part roles in defence and midfield, the singing of Klavan and Matip seems to have spelt the end of his limited opportunities under Klopp. While he surely has enough in the tank to contribute, the gegenpressing tactics of the former Borussia Dortmund manager are perhaps not best suited for him. A move to Inter Milan looks to be the likely option.
