Arsenal got their worst injury news of the season earlier in the week when the club’s official site revealed that Santiago Cazorla is set to get a surgery on his right foot, which will see him out approximately for three months.
This means Arsenal will at the best again enjoy his sublime services in March, by which most of the season will be done. Now, Arsenal surely have depth in the midfield position with the likes of Aaron Ramsey, Grant Xhaka, Francis Coquelin and Mohamed Elneny but either due to Wenger’s wrong combinations or their lack of form, the pivot of the team hasn’t been able to perform to it’s potential.
Cazorla has appeared 8 times this season, scoring two goals, creating 10 chances and two assists. He has completed 497 passes this season with a pass accuracy of 91%, of which 78% were forward passes. Arsenal’s creative midfielders include Ramsey and Xhaka but they are yet to perform admirably so far this season on a consistent basis.
It is very difficult to replace Cazorla. His effectiveness is grown out of the experience and technique and Arsenal could look to bring in players who could be effective in their own way. We look at 3 midfielders Arsenal should consider buying in January to fill Cazorla’s void.
Leon Goretzka
One of the German young sensations, who has gained mileage for his impressive display in the middle of the park this season.
The 21-year-old is a key player at Schalke and has pretty much all the quality. His physique meets the English Premier League demands and where technique is concerned, he has garnered a lot of applauds for his incisive passing.
Given how German talents pan out at Arsenal, he could be a god buy.
