Robert Snodgrass has been the only good thing about Hull City’s Premier League campaign this season so far and they could even lose out on him as Scottish giants Celtic, who are long admirers of the forward, are reportedly likely to place a bid for him this January.
Snodgrass had been a childhood Celtic supporter and their current boss Brendan Rodgers will use that to his advantage to land him at Celtic Park. Snodgrass’ contract ends just six months later and according to the Daily Record, the Hull City star has reportedly turned down a new contract.
There is no particular reason for the star forward to stay with the Tigers, turning down an offer from Celtic. While Celtic are mostly regulars in the UEFA Champions League, Hull are fighting relegation this season after getting promoted last season.
If Celtic make a move, his departure looks imminent. Here are 3 alternatives Mike Phelan could opt for if they fail to hold on to their star attacker.
Gregoire Defrel
Defrel is attracting attention from all across Europe with his consistent performances in Sassuolo. The French international has some serious pace and his timely bursts from deep passes have been noteworthy. He has already scored six goals this season, and registered one assist, having a shot accuracy of 68%.
Like Snodgrass, Defrel’s attributes enable him to take up positions either on the wide areas of up front. His knack for chasing defenders and winning the ball for his teammates up front could be a real asset for Hull. The Tigers lack a forward who is agile and buying Defrel will bring that to a dispirited Hull side.
Jordan Rhodes
Phelan is surely well-acquainted with the quality of Jordan Rhodes from his Championship days. He was one of the best strikers for Boro and played a crucial role in firing them to the top flight of English football. However, he has struggled to find a place in the first team and has seen himself behind Negredo most times. He has only 204 minutes of first team football to his name this season and could be on his way out in January.
Rhodes definitely has what it takes to drag Hull City out of the relegation muddle and will be a brilliant buy for Phelan.
Leonardo Ulloa
Yet another forgotten star in the Premier League. Ulloa played an important role last season as Leicester City lifted the League title, surprisingly. However, contrary to his expectations, his chances of getting into the first team have further diminished this season with the arrival of Slimani and Musa. The Argentina could be another good investment by Phelan.
