West Brom had quite a decent start to their season this time around. The Baggies are sitting 11th in the table after 11 game weeks and look like a side who would stay around there at the end of the season. A Tony Pulis side rarely gets dragged into a relegation battle because they are always a strong side defensively. With their club record signing Nacer Chadli in attacking midfield, the Midlands’ side have improved quite a lot attacking wise and could very well challenge for a top eight finish if things go their way.
With a few reinforcements in the summer, West Brom could very well improve their stature in the Premier League. The Liverpool Echo claims that Tony Pulis is lining up a loan move for out of favour Liverpool stopper Mamadou Sakho. The Frenchman has not played for the Reds since April, the result of a failed drugs test for which he was later cleared, as well as injury and disciplinary problems.
It seems that Sakho has kicked the ball for the last in a Liverpool shirt. The relationship between him and Klopp has gone sour and he is behind Joel Matip, Dejan Lovren, Lucas Leiva and Ragnar Klavan in the pecking order. However, this situation has not arisen due to footballing reasons but the Frenchman’s attitude problems. Sakho is very much a capable defender and used to be the heartthrob of many Liverpool fans.
Sakho is a proven and experienced defender in both international football and in club football. An inborn leader of men, Sakho made a record when he captained Paris Saint-Germain in his teenage on his debut for the French giants. Leadership is one of the most useful abilities of a defender and Sakho has it naturally. Even though West Brom are pretty good defensively, a player of Sakho’s calibre would still be a big plus for them.
The 26-year-old Frenchman is a unique kind of defender. He is a maverick who plays by his own rules. He is well known for his ability to pick out a pass from the back. He also excels in the air. Sakho is a big guy but rarely needs to use his physique as his ability to read the game and intercepting skills do the job.
Sakho is a big player and might seem too big for West Brom but he needs to take this opportunity. He has his whole career to resurrect. A regular for France before this summer, a good loan spell at the Hawthorns could very well help Sakho gain his reputation back.
