Among the Premier League clubs who are looking to buy their way out of the relegation zone is Hull City. They are struggling at the 18th position in the league table treading above Sunderland and Swansea City by 3 points at the moment.
Despite having glimpses of good performances, Hull’s poor season have been hugely crippled by injuries to first team players, which has led the Tiger’s boss Mike Phelan to makeshift his formation most of the times. The Tigers are already without the services of their first choice strikers Will Keane and Abel Hernandez, who are out with long-term injuries.
Phelan is desperate to bring in more players in the upcoming winter transfer window to look and he is reportedly plotting a move for troubled ex-Manchester United and West Ham United midfielder Ravel Morrison in January.
The 23-year-old has a bad history with clubs. His current club, Lazio, has rejected him after he made just eight appearances for the Serie A club since joining on a free transfer 16 months ago. After he was axed by former coach Stefano Pioli for showing a lack of effort, the new boss Simone Inzaghi also had a similar opinion about him and has refused to play him.
The Italian club, which holds him under contract until June 2019, has permitted him to find a new club and are ready to offload him for just £600,000.
Mike Phelan will surely need to reflect on the consequences, bringing in such a player might have on the team. But, Phelan has coached Morrison during his time at United and knows his abilities well. He has stated Morrison as a talented player having ‘bag of abilities’ and will have a lot to offer to his team. Phelan believes Morrison needs to be harnessed by the right manner to get him back on track.
Now, the gamble could be worthwhile for a team who have few options and even fewer funds to cope with the ongoing crisis. However, nothing could be worse than bad faith among the players and the manager. And Morrison is capable of spreading such malady.
Hull City currently have Snodgrass and Mbokani up front, who have more or less held the row at one end, but it would be really difficult for them to continue it throughout the season. Snodgrass has scored 4 times this season and provided 1 assist. It seems that the Scottish international could perform much better with Ravel Morrison alongside him.
Morrison has earned praise from Harry Redknapp too, who believes he could be a great player if he desires to maximise his abilities.
