Liverpool have been the team to beat this campaign in the Premier League enjoying their scintillating form since the start of the season. The Reds sit at the top of the table with 26 points from 11 games scoring as many as 30 goals in the process. Jürgen Klopp’s magic seems to be working in the best possible way and if the Reds can keep this up, the fallen giants from Merseyside might soon have their glory days back.
The football Liverpool have played this season is breathtaking. The heavy-metal football of Jürgen Klopp is in full swing at Anfield right now but there seems to be no place for a gifted striker like Daniel Sturridge in the first-team at the moment.
All four goals from the English forward this season came in the League Cup in just two games but he is yet to open his account in 367 minutes of Premier League action.
The Daily Mirror claims that Spurs are looking to use Sturridge’s lack of playing time to their advantage and bring him to White Hart Lane in January. A player of Sturridge’s calibre definitely deserves more time on the pitch. When on song, he is arguably one of the best strikers in the Premier League. However, Klopp likes to use Firmino up front for his much better work rate and that is why Sturridge could very well be on the move.
One thing for sure, Sturridge won’t be the first-choice number nine at Spurs. He might be in the same league or even better than Spurs’ darling Harry Kane but the Spurs striker is an undroppable player at the North London club when fit. He is the fan favourite and the Lilywhites’ whole game is centred around him.
Sturridge would have to hope that Pochettino deploys two players up front regularly to get regular playing time which is unlikely because Pochettino is a fan of using 4-2-3-1.
This could Liverpool’s big season when they finally get their hands on the Premier League title after almost three decades and Klopp will do everything in his powers to not lose any player in January.
Even though Sturridge is not playing much, he is a proven goalscorer and having a player like him on the bench who can change a game on his own could prove to be the difference. There is no way Klopp would let Sturridge go in January and that too to direct rivals.
Besides, the style of play Spurs employ is as demanding as Liverpool’s. If he can’t make the Liverpool starting lineup, there is no guarantee Sturridge will get the nod at Spurs either.
