11 games into the season in the Premier League and Spurs are the only team unbeaten so far. However, the fans won’t be too happy with the way their team has fared so far. Pochettino’s side have never finished on the losing side this season in the League but have seen six draws so far which is far from impressive. They are in a tricky situation in their Champions League group as well and chances are low that they will reach the round of 32.
So, what are Spurs missing this season? They have scored just 15 Premier League goals this campaign, exactly the half of league leaders Liverpool. Well, a biased fan might come up with an excuse that Harry Kane was injured for a major part of the season already but is that good enough? When you are aiming for the Premier League title, you have to overcome whatever hindrances come in your way and Spurs failing to cope up with Kane’s absence is not at all acceptable.
Spurs have often missed that x-factor in their attack this season. Apart from a few good games, they seem over-reliant on their two full-backs Danny Rose and Kyle Walker crossing to create their chances. You need a special player to win you games on his own when the team struggles to perform, like Philippe Coutinho or Eden Hazard or Dimitri Payet but Spurs do not have that special game-changer.
Once one of the biggest talents in world football, Isco, has that special charm in him which is getting wasted at Real Madrid. The 24-year-old has completed 90 minutes on the pitch just twice this season and has started just five times. A player of his calibre deserves more and now that he is 24, it’s probably time for the Spanish international to move on. Spurs could be his ideal destination and Pochettino shouldn’t also let this opportunity slip.
Isco has won two Champions League titles since he switched to Real Madrid from Malaga after winning the prestigious ‘European Golden Boy’ award but has he really made it to the next level at Santiago Bernabeu? The answer is a big NO! He is nothing more than a squad player at the Spanish capital despite doing well whenever he has been given the chance. He could be a key player at White Hart Lane like he was at Malaga and that will be highly beneficial for Spurs.
Isco is a flamboyant midfielder with exceptional dribbling skills. He is much different to Christian Eriksen in style. While the Dane looks to cut open opponent defence with his killer balls, Isco tends to make his way past defenders with his dribbling before playing the final ball. You need such players in your team when your attack is underperforming.
A hard-working player like Isco will thrive under Pochettino. We have seen the Spaniard often playing on the flanks or even as a number eight for his team. So, his versatility is an added advantage.
Spurs have struggled to cope up with hectic fixtures with their Champions League qualification and almost every midfielder has gone down with injuries. It’s quite evident that Spurs need to add more attacking midfielders to their team and Isco seems like a perfect addition. Besides, their last attacking signing from Madrid, Rafael van der Vaart, didn’t do badly, did he?
