JOHN STONES
A team of Manchester City’s calibre shouldn’t be overjoyed if they keep a clean sheet against West Bromwich Albion, be it away from home. But this City team just don’t keep clean sheets and John Stones performance in the role that he is supposed to play was near perfect.
The English international was comfortable and dominant at the back. He made a couple of interceptions and cleared the ball 4 times. But his main contribution was in his play going forward. Stones made 65 passes with an accuracy of 97% and the average length of his pass was 18 metres. He also contributed a key pass to his teammate.
CALUM CHAMBERS
Boro have found it difficult to garner that extra cutting edge to see off teams and in the process, notch up a clean sheet. They have been good in flashes but the overall team performance required to make a fight in the top-flight had been missing. But Aitor Karanka’s side managed an uplifting 2-0 win over another impressive team- Bournemouth and Calum Chambers was instrumental in defence. The Arsenal loanee notched up impressive stats of 4 interceptions, blocked 2 shots and cleared the ball 8 times.
