Match Day 11 saw an avalanche of goals and we saw one of the worst defensive displays by the Premier League in a long time collectively. Only Chelsea managed to keep a clean sheet in their 5-0 rout of Everton. The stand-out performances were that of Chelsea and Liverpool and both the teams produced near-perfect displays and won by a margin of 5 goals each. While the quantity of out and out strikers has reduced in the league over the seasons, the quality and quantity of the attacking midfielders have increased and the Premier League boasts of some of the best talent in the world currently.
It was extremely difficult to choose from 3 attackers among a whole lot of terrific performances but we have zeroed in on these 3 players. Let us take a brief look.
EDEN HAZARD
The Belgian’s renaissance has been one of the top factors in this Chelsea team’s revival. Hazard has slowly grown in confidence and has certainly got his mojo back now. He was unstoppable against Everton and such a performance was on the horizon looking at his last couple of matches. After his 1 goal and assist performance against the Saints, he took things a notch higher and scored two fabulous goals and assisted another. He was taken off in the 79th minute and Chelsea will be hoping to get a fit Hazard after the International duties because it is their time now and they need Hazard.
SADIO MANE
While Phillipe Coutinho and Firmino were unstoppable in the 6-1 mauling of Watford, Mane gave the impetus in the beginning and although he was hauled off the hour mark, he still had time to score a brace and continue his fine home form this season.
Mane’s pace stretches the opposition defence and allows the likes of Firmino and Coutinho to weave their magic. And while Klopp’s statement that Luis Suarez would have had to settle on the bench in this team of his might be an exaggeration, the trio have certainly set the Premier League alight.
ROBERT SNODGRASS
Snodgrass has long been considered as Hull’s most creative player and their most potent attacking threat. While he has put in consistent performances, the end product has been missing in various matches and mirroring his form Hull have been poor too, which in-turn has made it difficult for him to properly express himself. But against Southampton, the Tigers recorded a crucial victory and 3 vital points which will give them a huge boost going into the International break. Snodgrass picked up an assist and a goal and was at the centre of everything Hull did right on the day.
