In football, we get to come across the next Messis and the next Ronaldoes. It’s quite natural to see the younger and upcoming talents being drawn into comparisons with the best players of the game. Considering the season Łukasz Teodorczyk is having, he is now being termed as the next Lewandowski which is understandable. Both are Polish and clinical in front of the goal. Their style of play is pretty similar also.
Łukasz Teodorczyk is having a brilliant season for Anderlecht on loan from Ukrainian giants Dynamo Kyiv. 15 goals in 20 games- this kind of proficiency from the Polish hitman has already attracted a number of suitors and The Mirror claims that West Ham are one of those.
West Ham certainly need additional goal-scoring options with summer loan signings Jonathan Calleri and Simone Zaza both failing to impress thus far, and Teodorczyk could be a superb option for the Hammers. Here is a SWOT analysis of the Polish international.
Strengths
Teodorczyk has always been a prolific striker throughout his career but his spell with Anderlecht this season has been excellent. Belgian Pro League is quite a competitive league and we have seen plenty of players making their names at the bigger stage from the Belgian first division.
A strong and physical striker, Teodorczyk hardly gets outmuscled by defenders which will help his cause in the Premier League. He does have a good pace in his locker too and tries to beat the defensive line. The Polish attacker excels in the air and has won an average of 3.8 aerial duels this season in the Europa League. He is easily the fit version of Andy Carroll who has tasted success in front of goal whenever he has been fit.
Weaknesses
One big weakness of the 25-year-old is that he is yet to play in either of Europe’s top five leagues so far. West Ham have to ensure a good return from whichever striker they sign in January and Teodorczyk does not promise a guaranteed return. He will take his time to adapt to English football which can cost the Hammers big time.
Opportunities
At the age of 25, Teodorczyk is young enough to be a smart long-term investment, with his best years potentially still ahead of him. If West Ham want to become a major force in English football in coming years, they need younger and talented players and Teodorczyk can be one of them. The Polish hitman is rated at £12m by Dynamo Kyiv which is not really too much these days where the market is so much inflated.
Threats
Simone Zaza, Jonathan Calleri, Ashley Fletcher have all failed to perform in a West Ham jersey so far. Meanwhile, Andy Carroll’s fitness concerns are still there. The English towering striker has been unavailable with injury since almost the start of the season. Teodorczyk will have big expectations heaped upon his shoulders if he signs for the Hammers and another failure could be a big setback for the East London club.
