There were absolutely crazy scenes at the Vitality Stadium when Sunderland grabbed their first win of the season one week after having the worst start in the Premier League history. It becomes all the more important as they managed it with 10 men.
Sunderland Player Ratings
Pickford (8.5/ 10) – Produced an absolute stunner at the later stage of the second half. It was he who kept the Black Cats in the game. The Cherries kept pouring on a string of attacks on Sunderland’s box and Pickford was like a mountain that stopped everything. Of course, luck favored him as Bournemouth hit the post twice but he was brilliant throughout the game.
Van Aanholt (8/ 10) – Was one of his better performances today. Had a lot of movement on the left flank. Gave 9 successful passes in the attacking third, which kept the Cherries on pressure. Recovered the ball 3 times.
Djilobodji (7.5/ 10) – Was largely unnoticeable defending in numbers throughout the match. Made 3 important interceptions, which was his only main contribution. Sunderland spent most of the match clearing Bournemouth attacks.
Kone (7/1 0) – Had a very poor first half where he switched off a few times that led Bournemouth into dangerous positions. Rectified most of his mistakes in the second half and looked disciplined. Lucky to have his manager’s trust.
Jones (7.5/ 10) – Recovered the ball 3 times from dangerous positions and kept the back line intact. Had 4 successful tackles out of the 6 attempted.
