The Manchester United squad has crumbled under huge anticipation this season. The hype of the new coach and the star players had gotten the fans in a euphoria, which was soon broken as the season started. After 11 games they are in the 6th position with 8 points. Mourinho has pointed out the players have not shown 100% commitment which indicates that the problem is more at an individual level.
Stars
David De Gea
The Spaniard has been absolutely phenomenal in the goal this season. He has made 19 saves this season keeping four clean sheets. He has a pass accuracy of 60%. United’s defence has been way below par this season and the Spaniard is to be given a lot of credit for still keeping the team in the league hunt. It was for his astonishing saves that United came out without a scratch from Anfield. De Gea’s average claim success is 100%.
Juan Mata
Another Spaniard in the United team, who has shown his brilliance in the few chances he got this season. Mata has scored two goals this season, creating 16 chances and one assist. Mata has completed 374 passes this season with a pass accuracy of 91. With a 79% shot accuracy in the number 10 position, Mourinho has been urged more than once by the fans to play him regularly.
Zlatan Ibrahimović
The Swede arrived at Old Trafford amidst a lot of hype and pompousness and although he has taken longer than expected to get into the groove, his physical presence is always a concern for the opponent. He has scored six goals this season and registered no assists. It was his brace that took United to the 6th position prior to the international break. He had a brief spell where he went goalless, but he did contribute in other aspects of the game.
Duds
Paul Pogba
The towering Frenchman could only bag 2 goals in 10 appearances. It seems that Mourinho is still to finalise his exact positioning in the team for his offensive stats doesn’t disappoint. He has created 19 chances and completed 621 passes this season with a pass accuracy of 86%, of which 75% were forward. Considering his price tag, Pogba has struggled. But he could soon pick up his game after impressing against Swansea last time out.
Wayne Rooney
A lot has been speculated already concerning his future in the club and although Mourinho has stated that he doesn’t want the striker to leave, the once deadly striker who has scored 249 goals for the club in his career has managed only one goal in Premier league in 10 appearances. His shot accuracy is appalling at 46%. Rooney has 4 assists this season and with Zlatan suspended against Arsenal, the English forward is likely to start.
Marouane Fellaini
He has never been able to play the same way he did in Everton. Fellaini has scored no goals this season, creating eight chances and no assists. He has completed 424 passes this season with a pass accuracy of 89%, of which 73% were forward passes. His impact has been next to negligible and is also linked with a move out of the squad in January.
