Real Madrid overcame a sprightly Sporting CP side to register a 1-2 win over the Portuguese outfit. The win ensures a nail-biting contest between Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid when they fight it out for the top spot in the group. Real haven’t been given an easy ride by any of the teams in the group stages and all the signs lead to a Champions League which might see a winner outside of the conventional top 3 teams in Europe.

NAVAS- 6/10
Not troubled enough on the night. Dealt with the solitary save he had to make. Clean sheet ruined by the needless penalty.
CARVAJAL- 5/10
Non-stop matches seem to be taking a toll on the Spaniard. Was mostly quiet and on the occasions, he ventured forward, the final ball was missing.
VARANE- 8/10
Another impressive outing by the French international at the heart of defence. Commanded his area well and scored the opening goal after a determined bit of play.
RAMOS- 7.5/10
Excellent comeback for Captain Fantastic. Played a part in both the goals and delivered a telling cross for Benzema to head in. Looks fitter and sharper than ever.
MARCELO- 6.5/10
Started the match well and looked determined initially but lost intensity and saw a dip in performance before he went off injured.
MODRIC- 7/10
Having to cover for Casemiro and Kroos, the Croatian midfielder hardly had the time to settle in after his comeback. Had a positive influence till the time his legs permitted. Influence waned thereafter. Will get better once he gets fitter.
KOVACIC- 8/10
His performances are gaining in stature match after match and his displays have lessened the blow of Casemiro’s absence. Has been strong in defence as well as attack. Long-term future at the club.
ISCO- 6/10
Matches so close to one another might have taken a toll on him after his prolonged stints from the bench. Seemed to lose steam early in the match but on the bright side is looking comfortable alongside his teammates.
BALE- 7.5/10
Keeps on impressing and was the brightest spark in attack. Got off injured early in the second half, though.
RONALDO- 4/10
Tried to make an impact but none came. 0 shots on target despite playing CF.
VASQUEZ- 5/10
Disappointing match despite a lot of effort. Needs to come up with quality in the final third.
