Champions Leicester City are currently monitoring Serbian midfielder Luka Milivojevic according to the latest reports. Boss Claudio Ranieri is looking for additions in a bid to halt the rot that has seen the Premier League champions win just three of their opening 12 matches.
Despite spending some serious money in the summer, the Foxes were unable to keep up with their expectations and has really looked to suffer in the midfield region with Ngolo Kante leaving for Chelsea. To make matters worse, Ranieri was forced to have concerns over the fitness of summer arrival Nampalys Mendy. The £10million addition, who was signed to replace N’Golo Kante, has started just one Premier League match as Leicester continue to ship goals.
However,`according to the Mirror, the Italian manager has identified Milivojevic, to be the ideal man to shield the back four. The Serbian international has 19 caps for his country and recently featured in their World Cup qualifying draw with Wales last weekend. Milivojevic is a powerful defensive midfielder who has played for a number of clubs and has gained a lot of experience by playing in the leagues of Serbia, Belgium and Greece.
The midfielder is currently playing for Olympiakos and has already established himself as a key member of the side. The 25-year-old is one of the first names on the Greek side’s team-sheet having started 18 matches in all competitions already this season. Having joined the Greek club in 2014, the Serbian has won consecutive Superleague titles in 2014/15 and 2015/16 along with the 2014/15 Greek Football Cup.
Milivojevic is a consistent performer who has the ability to destroy attacks in the defensive midfield, exactly what the Foxes need right now. Standing at 6ft 1 in he is also someone who has an aerial presence. A player who can pass the ball well, win the tackles in the midfield and can perform consistently, the Serbian also brings with him the experience of playing in Europe.
The former Anderlecht man has played in both the Champions League as well as the Europa League and can be someone the team would need in the latter stages of the Champions League against quality opposition for Leicester, who have done extremely well in Europe this season.
Despite their good form in Europe, Ranieri is determined to quickly change the present situation and form of his squad in the Premier League, for which he needs his players to be performing at a very high level. Leicester are in need of some players in January despite bringing in a few in the summer and in all fairness Milivojevic would be a good acquisition if the defending champions manage to sign him.
