Liverpool will look to continue on their merry way to what they believe will be their first ever Premier League trophy. While it is too soon and too premature, a certain section of fans are understandably finding it hard to contain their hidden aspirations and fantasies looking at the heavy metal treatment meted out to the teams when they are in the groove, which has been pretty much the whole time this season. Hence, the league position.
Jürgen Klopp has had enough time to infuse his exuberance and raw passion and is making sure the positive energy thus generated, transmits onto the field. The Reds have lost only once this season and it was a scoreline which many people find it hard to take now. A shock 2-0 loss against Burnley is their only real blemish this season and something which had made Liverpool fans fear for a tried and tested season ritual they had come to associate with the Anfield outfit. But they have been ruthless and although there have been big question marks about their defence, it seems Klopp is not ready to compromise on the attacking department just as yet.
The all-out assaults have reaped rewards and it is likely to be the strategy against Southampton.
PREDICTED LIVERPOOL LINE-UP VS SOUTHAMPTON (4-3-3)
DEFENCE
Loris Karius will be in goal and will look to come up with an assured performance which has been lacking on a consistent basis. Clyne will look to impose himself on the flanks and aid the likes of Mane and the midfield when in possession. He has expectedly built up a good understanding with Mane. Lovren is reportedly fit to start and will be partnered by Matip at the heart of the defence. Milner will take up his spot in the left-back position.
MIDFIELD
Klopp might have to deal with an enforced change in midfield in light of Lallana’s early withdrawal against Spain in midweek. Liverpool will want him to get fit in time but are unlikely to take a risk given the options at their disposal.
Jordan Henderson will be flanked by Emre Can and Wijnaldum in that case. The midfield 3 has been pivotal to the success of the front three with their pressing and work-rate helping to win the ball back in dangerous areas.
ATTACK
Coutinho will be buzzing after an excellent international round of matches for Brazil. He is quickly growing in stature and is arguably their most important player now. Firmino is expected to in the false 9 role once again with Mane on the right-wing.
